Stone win through to represent the Heart of England in the Large Town Category in the RHS National In Bloom Competition 2012

A happy New Year from STONE IN BLOOM.

This is an exciting year for us all in Stone. In August we shall be judged with other large towns by the RHS's Britain in Bloom judges .

We're very proud to have been chosen and also very excited about the prospects of our beautiful town being awarded a gold.

It means lots of continuing hard work for our group and we need to raise funds for the many ongoing projects we are working on.

We're holding a fun Quiz night and a Pie and Pea supper (Bev's Pies) at Stone Station on Saturday February 18th 7.15pm for 7.30pm.

Supper will be served at the start of the quiz.

Bring your own drinks.

Tickets £5 food inc.

Stone Win Gold Again!!!

Stone in Bloom won Gold in The Large Town Category plus they were the overall Gold award winners of that group.

The most exciting news was that they have been put forward to the national competition for 2012 an honour never achieved by Stone before.

"From the youngest nursery children presenting the judges with a welcome card to, at the conclusion of our tour the most talented Stone male voice choir, Stone has it all.

The Small In Bloom group bursts with energy and enthusiasm which is infectious. Floral displays in the main shopping areas were excellent as was the refurbished street furniture, the result of Bloomers efforts themselves.

Young people figure very high virtually all schools. Guides and Brownies etc. are involved.

The logistics of five schools entering a miniature garden competition must have been a nightmare. Some unique things are happening in this town, a Friends of Stone in Bloom, who even enjoy discounts negotiated with local businesses to a litter picking German Shepherd dog. A well deserved Gold Award.

This award is given to exceptional achievers who have demonstrated a consistently high standard in all areas of the judging criteria and objectives of Britain in Bloom."

Stone Resident Jayne Smith also won a very special award for Endeavour and determination " This young woman despite suffering many physical and emotional difficulties has managed to transform the gardens of her housing association home into Chelsea standard show gardens.

Stone in Bloom's working group member Tony Panter used his dog's litter picking skills to raise money to pay for paint they used on the street furniture in Stone.

Aslan the white German Shepherd dog, litter picked 190 cans and bottles on his daily walks with owner Tony Panter.

Karl Reuter-Rushton guessed the correct number and was the lucky winner of £125.

The route on Judging day (Friday July 8th 2011) has been decided and the work parties around Town have started in earnest.

On Sunday April 17th, we cleaned the walls and area surrounding the Plane Tree in Granville Square.

We also painted and re-stained one of the benches in the High Street as a trial before Stone in Bloom members start the refurbishment.

We wore our new Stone in Bloom High Viz vests which have been sponsored by Bev's Bakery.
